“Obviously the trip is about surfing and MSR is perfectly located to get you plenty, especially with Pitstops right out front. But what makes MSR such a great place to stay is the staff. Vere and the rest of the MSR crew make every aspect of your stay memorable. Incredible attention to detail with the lodgings, the grounds, surf knowledge, transportation, and provisions. They all truly care about making everyone’s trip an amazing one. Case in point. I was one of the first Vegans, if not THE first, to visit the retreat apparently. Each meal was meticulously planned, tasted awesome, and far exceeded my expectations. But I was even more impressed by how much time and effort went in to planning for just a single guest. “Trip exceeded expectations
The crew, Vere, Marjolien, Leo, Aggy, Peter and others were thoughtful and uber professional. The surf guides provided invaluable advice, even paddling with us with verbal real time encouragement and guidance.They treated us like family and was truly delightful to engage with them during the surf sessions and meal times. Value wise, it’s unbeatable for what you get. I’m a foodie and the meals were better than most San Francisco restaurants. Vere’s photo package was superior to most wedding photographers and the work he puts into his profession is unmatched, patiently padding in fins for 2-3 hours to get the rare watershots through a fisheye lens while I caught the rare wave due to my average ability. It’s a must buy option in my opinion. I felt like a celebrity. He loves photography. Waking up to the sound of the waves each morning was surreal and the picturesque sunsets while having a beer never got old. Lastly, they are funny as hell and great company. They truly care. I would not hesitate to return.”

Had an incredible trip to MSR at the very start of the season. Perfect waves everyday without crowds. Resort was comfortable and relaxing and food was delicious. Staff could not have been nicer and made sure we had the best time ever! Thank you and see you next time!”
I returned from 10 days at Mentawai Surf Retreat less than a week ago. Take me back! I travelled with four mates and we had the best 10 days of surfing, relaxing, adventure and good times you could ever ask for. The crew of Vere, Marjolein (Super Mario), Tom, Aggy, Ahn, Jacob and the rest were great fun, the service was excellent, the food fantastic (I think I put on weight), the setting is paradise and the experience is one that should not be missed. I cannot speak highly enough of all aspects of MSR and highly recommend it. We all miss the afternoon Bintang at the Table of Knowledge or on the boat on the way back from another surf, plus we all miss the MSR family. Thanks guys for making this trip even more awesome than we ever expected.

“Paradise exists!
This place deserves 6 stars, its that dam good!
From the moment we arrived, Vere and his crew were amazing! After a rough and long boat ride over from Padang, we were greeted with a cold beer on the house, an amazing dinner and a good nights sleep.
On our first day, it was an early rise at first light to surf Pitstops - right out front, followed by an epic breakfast and a briefing by our amazing surf guides Vere, Marjolein and Jeff. Straight away, after a short boat trip, we were out surfing some of the best waves of our lives! Super fun surf and warm water!
This was the general consensus from day to day, Eat, surf, nap, surf, eat, beer. What a life!
Everything about this resort is top notch, the food is 5 star, the surf is epic and having Pitstops right out front is a real selling point. All the staff are friendly and very welcoming. The surf guides are super experienced and always avoid crowds to get you into the best waves. The huts and general hang out areas are super clean and nice. It's easy to get to a good nights sleep as you’re so surfed out at day’s end - the best feeling ever.
All in all, I couldn't recommend this surf camp more highly. Fun vibes and perfect waves.
