As if this wasn’t enough, the Mentawai islands were gifted to Indonesia as the surf mecca of the world, optimally positioned in the Indian Ocean, west of Sumatra, to catch the most consistent swells and perfect waves, all year round.

Mentawai Surf Retreat is nestled on 20 acres of beach front land on Nyang Nyang Island in the Northern Mentawai region. This amazing tropical island getaway is designed to cater for our guests every need, in and out of the water. This region is known as the “Playgrounds” area, and the name says it all. The Mentawai Islands are Mother Nature’s gift to the surfing world.
The retreat has several world class waves within walking distance and over 25 epic breaks just a short boat ride away. We have access to a large variety of waves for all surfing levels; from mellow, peeling reef breaks to some of the heaviest barrels on the planet.

We are the only resort in Mentawai with a user-friendly, versatile wave located immediately in front of our resort, just 35 feet from your bungalow, where you can check the waves from your bed! Our wave, Pitstops, works on all tides, most winds and is one of the most consistent waves in the region. Super friendly, fun and rippable, favoured by the pros, friendly for groms and long-boarders too. It takes just 2 minutes from our restaurant to be in the line-up, no stairs to climb, no long walks, no channel to cross, it’s that easy
